Anni & Esk’s Fairy Tale Afterglow – New Orleans, LA

by on Jan.08, 2016, under Wedding & Engagement

Hi everyone,

Words can not describe how honored and grateful I am to be a part of Anni and Esk’s wedding in Biloxi, MS, and photograph their Afterglow Session in New Orleans, LA. It is a rare privilege for someone from CT to fly to that beautiful place and capture such a gorgeous Asian wedding for such an amazing couple. I am truly touched, and I will remember that experience forever.

But rather than my own memories, this post is really about Anni and Esk – and all the fun we had while taking their photos. We shot their Engagement Session in New York City, and this time we wanted something completely different. Anni wanted me capture the best New Orleans had to offer, so we made a plan to visit the local park – with that beautiful tropical vegetation, and those Oak trees with the gorgeous hanging lichen that grow only in the Deep South. Of course, no trip to New Orleans is complete without Bourbon St – and we got that too!

Nothing stopped these two, not even the homeless people on Bourbon St who decided to join us for a couple of photos (see below), nor the fist fight we somehow had to witness while taking pictures in the French Quarter (sorry, no images of that, haha). We spent the evening eating fantastic local crawfish, prepared by chef Jesse Le – could it have ended any better than that!? Here’s to Anni, Esk, and all my new Vietnamese friends I made during that trip – CHEERS!

Enjoy the eye candy…. yo!

See you around,

Your Pal Val

Mary & Tai’s Engagement Session – Harkness Park, Waterford, CT

by on Jun.23, 2015, under Wedding & Engagement

Hey guys,

It is such a pleasure to introduce to you Mary & Tai who are getting married later this summer. It will be an stunning traditional Vietnamese wedding like nothing you have seen – and, needless to say, I am so so excited for them!

Mary is the kind of bride who puts an incredible amount of thought and effort into every detail in her wedding – from the hand made accessories  – check out the umbrella and those Swarovski crystals on her veil and her bouquet (she did that herself!) – to the very last photo we took. A while ago we brainstormed about a location for the engagement session (yes, the title didn’t lie – this IS an engagement session). We were thinking about going to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in New York City, and capturing the blooming cherry trees – but unfortunately the full bloom this year was way earlier than what we expected – and Mary’s dress was not ready at this point. Later on after rethinking the location we chose Harkness Park. And I am so glad we did – it offered all the photo ops we wanted – and then some. We lucked out and, along with those colorful azaleas and the amazing Japanese Maple, we found a cherry tree that was still blooming. Yay!

This shoot is not about the location though. It is about the love Mary and Tai share and how beautiful and happy they look together. The results? Well, you let me know what you think.

Last, but definitely not least, Mary happens to have her birthday today, so let’s all comment below and wish her a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY! May this one be the best birthday you’ve had Mary! Cheers!
