Alicia & Mike’s Provincetown, MA Engagement Session
by Val on Aug.09, 2011, under Seascapes, Wedding & Engagement
Provincetown, MA is a unique place – in so many ways. You get there, and immediately feel the difference. It’s colorful, coquette, cute, and super entertaining – everywhere you turn your head. But above all, it’s the place where Alicia and Mike originally met, spent a while together and Mike proposed. All that being said, the choice for our e-session was pretty obvious.
Our first stop was Race Point beach. At sunset, accompanied by seals, quietly swimming underwater and popping their heads out when you least expect them. The colors in the sky looked like they came from a fairy tale. The wind was playing in Alicia’s hair and everything was just perfect. We got there almost the minute the sun was going down behind the clouds. Magic hour, they call it… Sweeeeet.
On the way back from the beach we stopped at the Race Point Lighthouse for a few more shots before heading to Downtown P-Town for the rest of the session. Whether lit by my flashes, or in the headlights of their own Jeep, or dipped in the ambient P-Town atmosphere, Alicia & Mike looked absolutely amazing together. Their love is so beautiful, and I am so so excited for them! I can only imagine how fabulous they are going to be at the wedding. Let me just take a deep breath…. …Amen! ;)
Cheers,
Your Pal Val

And the Earth Day Photo Contest Winner Is…
by Val on Apr.26, 2011, under Landscapes, Seascapes
Hey there everyone,
It is late Tuesday night, and I want to post this as quickly as possible for you, so I’ll be real short and get to the point right away.
OUR FIRST PLACE WINNER IS:
This gorgeous Southwest slot canyon photo is a fine example how amazingly beautiful our planet is. For the photo bums, here’s some of the technical info: Nikon D90, Adobe RGB, 18mm, f11, 1/6 sec. Congratulations to our winner, Dani Hristova, who just netted a real fun portrait session with Valdorama!
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
We had some really tight competition between the honorable mentions. My sincere congrats to Heidi Lee, Debbie Staley, Jeffrey Walsh, Neli Gocheva & Olga Petkova whose images are displayed above!
And of course, a BIG BIG thank you to all of you who contributed to this idea and submitted your photos! Every single one of them meant so much to me! This year we had a lot of people taking part – many more than last year – and next time we will try to make the contest even bigger and better. As always, I encourage everybody to get out with a camera and enjoy to the fullest what Mother Nature has to offer, leaving nothing but footsteps and camera clicks behind. The results are absolutely beautiful, and I hope to see more and more of these gorgeous photos in the forthcoming contests.
Once again, congratulations to everybody!
Shoot away, have fun, go green, love, respect and protect Mother Nature!
Yours truly,
Val

Hot Locations for Green Wedding Photography in New England
by Val on Nov.12, 2009, under Landscapes, Seascapes, Wedding & Engagement
I’ve been contemplating for a long time the idea of cataloging the photos taken at some of my favorite locations in New England. Some of my clients have been asking me for that too. While the list of these places is quite long, in this post I’ll try to highlight some my favorite locales and give you a rough idea how they look so that your choice gets easier when the right time comes.
There are still some places in New England whose splendor is unparalleled. Places which are hard to photoshop or produce artificially in any way. Most importantly, these are places which won’t be the same 10 years from now.
Now close your eyes and try to picture yourself in these photos. Just married. A gorgeous white gown. All that stunning beauty surrounding you…
…Dream on.

…And finally, to demonstrate you how all this beauty ties with wedding photography, here are a couple of links to actual GREEN Wedding/ The Day After Photo sessions I did this year at some of the above places.

Breathtaking The Day After / Drown the Gown Session with Rali
by Val on Aug.24, 2009, under Wedding & Engagement
I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON.
But as painful as it was for all three us – myself, Krass & Rali – getting up at 4′30AM was a huge lottery hit that day. We had a little bit of everything in the mix – great morning colors, cooperative weather, nice wave action, a fantastic location showcasing some of the most intimate and authentic scenery Bulgaria has to offer, and last, but by no means least, an absolutely gorgeous model. We left Varna around 5 AM and reached our destination – a small fishing village just North of Golden Sands – shortly after that, just in time to capture the first rays of the sun.
I’ve known this place since I was a small kid. Some of my first landscape shots way back in the years were taken here. To my surprise the place hasn’t changed much – and most people are still there. It turns out Rali’s dad has a boat and a small hut there. It’s such a small world.

DROWNING THE GOWN a.k.a. The Green Session
To finally drown the gown and avoid curious onlookers we moved a bit up North where the beach is still untouched by human activity. The waves were perfect for what I was looking for, and the light conditions allowed me to squeeze out as much color from the sun’s reflections in the water as possible. Most Valdorama GREEN shots from that morning are in this gallery. Here we go:
…WOW, what can I say… Kudos to our bride/model – way to go Rali – you were phenomenal, truly outstanding!
It also looks like we created the daily sensation - the whole village has been talking about us that day. Oh boy :-)
…Did I say that all three of us had an absolute blast – shooting this type of photography is all about the awesome experience – the images just come as a nice dessert.
STAY TUNED – a VIDEO featuring cool moments, comments and other behind the curtain info about this session is coming up shortly. My sincere thanks to Krass for assisting me with some of the tricky shots AND shooting the video footage. His help can not be seen directly on the photos, but without him most of this shoot would not have been possible. You are a soldier man, thank you so much for always being there for me!

Carrie’s Amazing Drown the Gown Session, pt. II
by Val on Jul.01, 2009, under Seascapes, Wedding & Engagement
This was one of those moments when you go on location and have an absolute blast shooting. Then, when you come home and see the results on the monitor you are even more wowed.
Once again, all the applause goes to Carrie for posing so wonderfully and giving 150% of herself for this shoot.

Carrie’s The Day After/Drown the Gown Session, part I – Narragansett, RI
by Val on Jun.29, 2009, under Wedding & Engagement
Life throws all kinds of things at us. An every time a new opportunity comes our way, we just have to be ready. This session was a perfect example for that – we were hoping for a colorful sunrise, and instead Mother Nature bombarded us with wind, clouds, rain, drizzle, ocean spray… And that itself created all the drama we needed.
My sincere gratitude to Carrie’s uncle who taught her to pose so wonderfully. And, let me say it, she is just a natural talent.
This weekend she had a birthday – here are my two tiny cents for her:
Happy Birthday Carrie!
More from this session is coming your way really soon.

IMAGE OF THE YEAR AWARD at COPS
by Val on May.29, 2009, under General, Seascapes
Last night was a memorable one. I won first place in the “Non-Fauna” category at the yearly Charter Oak Photographic Society (COPS) contest. The second place in that category was also awarded to an image of mine.
To be honest, I never expected these awards, because this year I chose to be not so competitive, be true to myself and submit only what I, not the judges, really like. Obviously that paid off.
Cheers, everyone! Thank you so much for the inspiration, encouragement, for keeping me keeping on and being there for me. This one is for all of you too.
Here are the goodies in question:
First Place (You can view an enlarged version of this image along with the rest of the photos from that NYC fisheye series HERE.)
