Joanna & Donnie’s Hartford CT Christmas Lights Engagement Session
by Val on Dec.25, 2011, under Wedding & Engagement
Merry Christmas ya’all!
Hope everyone spent the time surrounded with joy among dear friends and family – and got a beautiful gift you love! My gift today is for an absolutely amazing couple I recently met, and had the great pleasure to turn friends with and photograph. Ladies & Gents …..drum roll…. Joanna & Donnie! YAYYYYY!
When we first met and started brainstorming about the locations of our sessions there were so many great ideas – it was really hard to pick one. But with the holidays approaching so fast and the weather turning a bit cold for a full day outside the Hartford option was pretty obvious. We started everything from my own house with a couple of shots in the setting sun. And boy, when I saw those first results, I knew this engagement session was going to be like no other.
Photographing such a hot couple was sooo much fun. The challenge was to come up with something that would stand out and make those shots truly unique. So we moved to Downtown Hartford – and played with the stairs in front of the State Capitol, the Christmas lights in front of the Library, around Constitution Plaza, and on the bridge across the Connecticut River. At this time of the year the city looks absolutely amazing. A true fairy tale – with all those holiday decorations, the music you hear as you walk down the street, and the holiday spirit everywhere around you.
We finished the session back at my house, around the Christmas tree in the kitchen – haha, you may recognize my appliances in a couple of shots. At the very end, after photographing the ring we took a couple of portraits of Joanna. She is so beautiful, isn’t she. Donnie, brother, you are so so lucky! My sincere congratulations, I am super excited for you! Can’t wait for round 2 in the spring!

Karen & Zac’s Manchester CT Wedding
by Val on Sep.26, 2011, under Wedding & Engagement
Hey there everyone,
I am back home after a long trip in Europe, yayyy :) I have tons of exciting things to share with you, and this will be the first out of many new posts in the next couple of weeks. Can’t wait to tell you everything!
Just two days after I came back, two amazing people – Karen & Zac – had the day of their dreams come true. And boy, what a day it was. We’d known each other for a while, and had the opportunity to go out, enjoy ourselves and take some photos in downtown Manchester about two months ago. We took so many other great photos from that E-Session I never had a chance to post anywhere, and I thought I’d start with some of them. Enjoy.
A couple of cool things about the newlyweds ;)
* Karen & Zac are crazy about movies. You will find a humongous library with DVDs in their house. They can tell you anything about any movie in the last 30 years, and quite possibly, well beyond that.
* They wanted to keep everything a little more private. They organized and did the whole wedding in their backyard.
* They have one of a kind sense of humor (!!!) and can also make some of the craziest faces I have seen.
* They have some of the most beautiful and welcoming families I have met.
* Their laughter is contagious.
* They are the luckiest people in the world they found each other.
Congrats guys, you were absolutely fantastic!
…But without further ado, here’s what happened at the wedding.

Alicia & Mike’s Provincetown, MA Engagement Session
by Val on Aug.09, 2011, under Seascapes, Wedding & Engagement
Provincetown, MA is a unique place – in so many ways. You get there, and immediately feel the difference. It’s colorful, coquette, cute, and super entertaining – everywhere you turn your head. But above all, it’s the place where Alicia and Mike originally met, spent a while together and Mike proposed. All that being said, the choice for our e-session was pretty obvious.
Our first stop was Race Point beach. At sunset, accompanied by seals, quietly swimming underwater and popping their heads out when you least expect them. The colors in the sky looked like they came from a fairy tale. The wind was playing in Alicia’s hair and everything was just perfect. We got there almost the minute the sun was going down behind the clouds. Magic hour, they call it… Sweeeeet.
On the way back from the beach we stopped at the Race Point Lighthouse for a few more shots before heading to Downtown P-Town for the rest of the session. Whether lit by my flashes, or in the headlights of their own Jeep, or dipped in the ambient P-Town atmosphere, Alicia & Mike looked absolutely amazing together. Their love is so beautiful, and I am so so excited for them! I can only imagine how fabulous they are going to be at the wedding. Let me just take a deep breath…. …Amen! ;)
Cheers,
Your Pal Val

Shoes… jewelry… Coventry Lake… water, canoe, sunset glamor, sassy, sexy… … Jilian … Jeremy.
OMG, what a blast this engagement session was! We had so many cool ideas, and a schedule that was pretty packed, but I have to say we totally nailed it, and Jil & Jeremy, you guys sparkled so beautifully – all the way from A to Z. I am looking at these images now and I am having a hard time picking my own favorites. I am so excited, and I am so looking forward to the wedding!

Stacy & Russ – Engagement Session, Wickham Park, Manchester CT
by Val on Jul.09, 2011, under Wedding & Engagement
Wickham Park in Manchester is an absolutely beautiful place – all year round. Summer though, imho, is the time when it truly shines. Stacy and Russ made such a great choice with it for their e-session. And shine, it did! What a wonderful setting it turned into for some of the most sincere and charming photos I have taken!
Speaking of sincerity and charm, I have photographed so many couples. Every single one – truly beautiful – in their own way. But I have rarely seen the spontaneity Stacy and Russ had. Everything happened so naturally, entirely by itself, and it just flowed, and flowed, and flowed. Giggly, serious, goofy, tender, romantic – you got it Val! Add to that the two wonderful little treasures they have, and you get the perfect recipe for cuteness. What can I say…
S & R, you guys are so blessed! I am so so happy for you, can’t wait for the wedding in the fall! Congratulations!

See you around,

Mari & Ben’s Fabulous Engagement Session
by Val on Jul.05, 2011, under Wedding & Engagement
Hey there everyone,
I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog front lately, but I am back – with a bang! :) A number of really cool shoots are on their way to the blog, including this one, so stay tuned! Without a further ado, let’s move on to the stars of the show today – Mari & Ben.
Wow, what an amazing engagement session we had! We started at a local park in Stratford, CT – with an blooming rose garden – all in red (which I totally LOVE!), a beautiful arbor, and a gorgeous stone throne. Boy, that was such fun! We then moved on to West Haven to explore one of the local beaches and have fun on the grass, climb on trees, rocks, and chill out.
Mari was absolutely fantastic in her red dress, and I am going to have to say, I secretly fell in love with Ben’s watch…. pssst, don’t tell anyone! But although clothes and accessories are beautiful things to talk about, this session was about something else, and that was the celebration of Mari and Ben’s love and their future life together. And what a celebration that was! You guys look absolutely fabulous together – and I am so so happy – and honored(!) – to be your wedding photographer. This was such a beautiful start, and I can’t wait for the wedding!

Sarah & Jimmy’s Amazing Valley Falls Photo Session
by Val on Feb.22, 2011, under Portrait, Wedding & Engagement
Hey Folks,
Valley Falls Park in Vernon CT is a beautiful place, easily accessible from anywhere in CT. The park has great trails, and amazing rock formations up the hill. In the winter there are huge icicles all over the place, and that just begs to be photographed. I’ve had a couple of engagement sessions in the area. When Sarah and Jimmy recently approached me, Valley Falls Park was the obvious choice.
I’ve known them as a couple for not too long. But there was something magical going on with them. The moment I picked the camera and snapped the first few of photos, it felt like I was photographing two old friends. Everything started flowing so smoothly and nicely right from the start. We got right into creative mode. Angles, light, different little places around the area – you name it – and Sarah and Jimmy were so totally amazing. After a while we totally lost idea how late it had gotten – until something amazing happened in the dark. One of my flashes ran out of juice, misfired and left only Jimmy & Sarah’s backlit silhouettes. When we saw the image in camera we were… totally blown away! I had never had such a beautiful serendipity.
Every once in a while these things happen, I guess. And when they do, they are truly magical. This shot is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites. Check it out below – image #10.
Cheers Jimmy & Sarah – for such an amazing photo session. And thank you so much for picking me to be your photographer. You guys ROCK!
