Anni & Esk’s Fairy Tale Afterglow – New Orleans, LA

by on Jan.08, 2016, under Wedding & Engagement

Hi everyone,

Words can not describe how honored and grateful I am to be a part of Anni and Esk’s wedding in Biloxi, MS, and photograph their Afterglow Session in New Orleans, LA. It is a rare privilege for someone from CT to fly to that beautiful place and capture such a gorgeous Asian wedding for such an amazing couple. I am truly touched, and I will remember that experience forever.

But rather than my own memories, this post is really about Anni and Esk – and all the fun we had while taking their photos. We shot their Engagement Session in New York City, and this time we wanted something completely different. Anni wanted me capture the best New Orleans had to offer, so we made a plan to visit the local park – with that beautiful tropical vegetation, and those Oak trees with the gorgeous hanging lichen that grow only in the Deep South. Of course, no trip to New Orleans is complete without Bourbon St – and we got that too!

Nothing stopped these two, not even the homeless people on Bourbon St who decided to join us for a couple of photos (see below), nor the fist fight we somehow had to witness while taking pictures in the French Quarter (sorry, no images of that, haha). We spent the evening eating fantastic local crawfish, prepared by chef Jesse Le – could it have ended any better than that!? Here’s to Anni, Esk, and all my new Vietnamese friends I made during that trip – CHEERS!

Enjoy the eye candy…. yo!

See you around,

Your Pal Val

Mari & Ben’s Bridgeport CT / Punta Cana, Dominican Republic Wedding

by on Dec.06, 2011, under Wedding & Engagement

Hey everyone,

This is going to be a bit of an unusually long post, but then, the wedding I will tell you about is truly extraordinary. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Mari & Ben – an absolutely amazing couple!

…Wow, what a wedding that was! We started everything with a formal ceremony in New Haven, CT, but Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic, was where things got really HOT. And I mean HOT! The Dominican Republic is one of a kind spot for destination weddings, and the images we took there weren’t any less impressive – a significant departure from my CT weddings. That place is heaven on Earth – beyond any description.  You gotta go there and experience it for yourself. And boy, with Mari and Ben being so fantastic I had a truly hard time selecting the shots for this post. Eventually I decided to split everything into multiple galleries and keep updating this post as I add more images.

So, without further ado, let’s check out the galleries – from Bridgeport CT, Stratford CT, and the ceremony & reception in Punta Cana. Enjoy.

Airplane Window Photos

by on Mar.23, 2009, under General

Ever wondered about the connection between wedding photography and airplanes? Think of me and you would have a pretty valid answer.

I’ve been obsessed with planes ever since I was a little kid. I totally love them. My mom used to work near the airport and whenever I was with her at work I would sit and watch the planes taking off and landing for hours. After that I would paint them and impress everybody.

Then there’s my job. Every once in a while I do a destination wedding and simply can’t resist not to snap a couple of quick shots through the plane window or at the airport. I sometimes go to Bradley International and take the camera with me – just for fun. I’ve been taking airplane pictures for a really long time and have amassed a huge collection of airplane photographs, organized in categories, sub-categories and sub-sub categories.

Today is Airplane Day here at Valdo-Bloggo-Rama.

The topic is Airplane Window Photos and I am starting with the most casual airplane shots I have. There’s the window, the wing, sometimes the engines, and then there’s an endless plethora of shapes awash in color – but sometimes something as simple as that can look so powerful, right? I hope these photos touch you the same way they continue to touch me.  Dig in. Much more on this topic is coming your way pretty soon.
